RESOURCES, EQUIPMENT, AND FACILITIES

Picture

Concordia’s facilities are top-notch and well-kept.  The art department installed a ceramic kiln, and we began valuable integrated lessons on ‘Matter – The Properties of Clay’ and ‘The Properties of Sand’ while glazing! Grade one students also enjoyed exploring and testing their understanding of Force and Motion by uniquely creating a ceramic spinning top!

Concordia’s Instructional Technology Department are well informed, knowledgeable and approachable! They are always quick to help and have skills that provide new approaches to teaching and learning through Technology Integration. Students have a 1:1 iPad program and they are individually responsible for their hardware and the IT department keep the Applications (APPs) uploaded and up-to-date on each individual iPad.  Teachers/Facilitators have an iPad and a laptop for instructional purposes. Makerspace and every classroom is equipped with a Touch TV computer interactive computer monitor.

The Makerspace has always had outstanding STEM Leadership and what is accomplished in the Makerspace is truly incredible. There are both indoor and outdoor activities related to STEM, for example our gardening and composting initiatives take learning outside the doors of the Makerspace for authentic science related experiences.

Our math curriculum uses Everyday Math, and our Science curriculum is based on NGSS; integration is seamless with regards to achieving stated STEM/STEAM Goals and Objectives while maintaining and accomplishing standards that are specific to each subject area.

The  Media Specialist at Concordia supports the STEM Initiative and works in tandem with the Makerspace activities. The library is also a center for learning, parent and student outreach, and instigating meaningful community activities; as well as bringing in Experts in the Field.

With all these outstanding professionals and specialists, it is no doubt that Concordia Shanghai is considered a premier school in Shanghai.

Here is and example from ISTE Standards for Students that show how Literacy can be a prompt for Innovation and Design
