OUTCOMES RESULTING FROM PERFORMING A NEEDS ASSESSMENT indicate that Concordia International School Shanghai is on the cutting edge of providing authentic learning experiences in the area of STEAM! One wonderful advancement in our program is our current financial commitment to the STEAM program to build and equip a brand-new Makerspace for the Middle School. How exciting, indeed! Monies have already been allocated and approved by Head of School and School Governance. The best is yet to be and students and faculty await with eagerness and anticipation. There is so much to look forward to!
Important key factors that resulted from the Leadership in STEAM Initiative is to ensure that the ISTE Standards for both Teachers and Students are dutifully implemented into planning and pre-planning stages. As more and more data and research shows providing students with the ability to become responsible digital citizens and work within the framework of appropriate use, acceptable manner, and reasonable time allowances. By setting these expectations for STEAM integration into the classroom as well as classroom visitations to the Makerspace becoming more authentic, and timely in regard to content curriculum being not only supported but enhanced.
Also, by providing more support for classroom teachers who seek to add STEAM into their individual curriculums in purposeful ways will ensure their success and their student's success as well. Life, growth, and learning are all processes that must include nurturing, support, structure, and belief, values, and faith. Creating an environment where all levels of learning are welcome, acceptable, and built upon with genuine care for all individuals. The Makerspace becomes a hub for individual interests and everyone is welcome on their own level of knowledge and understanding. Makerspace Leadership provides more than just know-how and skills for integration and implementation but also encompassing a unique ability to serve and assist others to achieve their STEAM goals.
