LEADERSHIP IN STEAM INITIATIVE
Concordia International School Shanghai (CISS) has a long history of providing an outstanding quality of education. Concordia Shanghai celebrated its 23rd year in 2021 and are quickly approaching the quarter of a century milestone. Currently, CISS has a very active, productive, engaging, and cutting-edge STEM program.
Current guidelines and policies are well-established at CISS though goals and objectives continue to adapt and evolve in relation with ever advancing technology. The most innovative ideas, tools, equipment, and practices are implemented to ensure that the STEM program is up-to-date, meaningful, valid, and fun! The Makerspace is well-stocked, well-organized, and well-managed. Modeling successful organizational skills and strategies will benefit our students as they emulated these with ease in daily life. Part of the future STEM program will be to integrate the area of the visual arts to create STEAM!
Concordia’s Mission is that we view every student as a gift from God, entrusted to us by parents, and are committed in Christian stewardship to educate students holistically in a nurturing environment that includes comprehensive and challenging opportunities in academics, creative arts, spirituality, athletics, co-curricular activities, and service. There are approximately 400 students in the Elementary School division which consists of Grades One – Four.
In accordance with Shanghai local government laws and regulations, our student body is made up of dual passport holders of China and other countries. There is a large population of students which require ELL assistance in the classroom which is extensively provided through ELL language support including during STEM / Makerspace activities. Our campus is safe, inviting, and as seen in these photographs, the Makerspace is a place that stimulates thought, encourages healthy social interaction, strengthens communication personifies the meaning of student engagement. |
